Essential Questions: What were the major events that led to the Civil War? What were the end results of the Civil War?
Concept Map Integration Plan: A concept map will be created from a brainstorming session in Edistorm [http://www.edistorm.com] The concept map will be created with Powerpoint on the Smartboard, and will be printed and handed out to each student to use as a study guide.
Brief description of the Instruction Plan: The lesson will begin with the teacher showing The Civil War Brainpop video. The video will help build a sound knowledge base for the lesson. After the video the class can take the Civil War quiz that accompanies the Brainpop video. Next the students will use the Edistorm website to brainstorm a list of events that led up to the Civil War, and also the end results of the Civil War. The ideas from the brainstorming session will be compiled into a concept map that will be created in Powerpoint on the Smartboard. This will allow the entire class to collaborate in creating the concept map. When the concept map is completed, it will be printed and handed out to the students to use as a study guide tool.
Additional Technology Integration to be Used: This lesson will use a Web 2.0 tool, a concept map made in Powerpoint, and a Civil War Brainpop video will be shown on the Smartboard.
Description of the ‘relative advantage’ of all technology being used in this lesson: I will begin by showing the Brainpop Civil War video to introduce the lesson and help activate knowledge for the lesson. Next I will use a brainstorming session from Edistorm to help create a concept map. I will then make use of the concept map because it allows the students to use a simple map to help organize complex information and ideas related to the Civil War. |
This concept map was designed to accompany a Social Studies lesson about the American Civil War. The concept map will help the students organize the events that led to the Civil War, as well as the the end results of the war.
